For almost a decade, the staff at our center has gathered every week for an hour of breathwork and meditation. We relax, transcend and bond together. I am convinced that this practice is one of the reasons we have such great client outcomes, as it helps us keep ourselves centered, release stress and connect our higher selves. For the last five years, we have shared our knowledge with our community partners through our Relax Miami campaign. In 2008, the Red Cross provided us funds to help those impacted by the 2005 hurricane season through their Community Resiliency Grant. We would now like to share and make available some of our favorite tools to those who’ve attended our workshops as well as to those who could use some powerful methods for relaxation.

The vagus nerve is responsible for many important functions relating to relaxing our bodies. From Dr. Pat Gerbarg: "Research evidence suggests that Victory breathing stimulates the parasympathetic system (the soothing, recharging part of our nervous system). Stimulation of the vagus nerves is probably important in this effect. The vagus nerves carry information about the internal state of the body to the brain and this information affects how we think and feel. In addition, the vagus nerves help regulate internal functions such as heart rate, respiration, digestion, immune response, and the activity of glands. http://www.haveahealthymind.com/ The first part of our regimen entails learning how to perform the Victory Breath: (Video link)
Singing bowls, to my knowledge, originated in Tibet, however, the ancient civilizations of India, the Orient, Africa, Europe, and among the Aboriginals, American Indians, ancient Egyptian priests, all used the practice of producing sound vibration to heal and achieve balance from within. They are a powerful tool for relaxation and ‘retuning’ the body. Our recordings, performed by Jill Rapperport, from Soaring Eagle yoga, pair various bowls timed to lower the breath rate to five per minute. Research has shown that lowering the breath rate to five per minute results in significant health benefits.
Slowing rate of breath has also been shown to lower blood pressure.

Start your session/practice with one of the 10 minute bowl recordings, using the Victory Breath. Afterwards, listen to the healing chant that was passed on to us as a recording made by monks of the Dalai Lama. A write-up that was passed on to us as well describes the chant. Ten minutes of breathing with the bowls and ten minutes of this chant usually results in a state of profound relaxation.
Any one of the sound bowl recordings will assist the whole mind and body to achieve relaxation and open inner space. Specific bowls, and their corresponding chakra tones, used in each of the recordings are listed below.
